3. Assume and test. "If A is lying, what happens?" If you hit a contradiction, the assumption is wrong.

Easy logic puzzles (1-8)

1. Height order. Maya is taller than Jordan. Jordan is taller than Priya. Who is the shortest?

2. Number series. What comes next: 3, 6, 12, 24, ?

3. Drinks. Ava, Ben and Cole ordered a coffee, a tea and a juice. Ava does not drink hot drinks. Ben does not drink coffee. Who ordered what?

4. Glorps and Zinks. All Glorps are Zinks. Tomi is a Glorp. Is Tomi a Zink? Is every Zink a Glorp?

5. High-fives. Five friends each high-five every other friend exactly once. How many high-fives happen?

6. Day math. Today is Wednesday. What day is two days after the day before yesterday?

7. Letter jump. What comes next: A, C, F, J, O, ?

8. Socks in the dark. A dark drawer holds 6 black and 6 white socks. How many must you grab to be sure of a matching pair?

Medium logic puzzles (9-17)

9. Truth or lie. On an island, truth-tellers always tell the truth and liars always lie. A says, "B is a liar." B says, "We are both truth-tellers." What are A and B?

10. Logic grid: languages. Zoe, Liam and Noor each take one language (Spanish, French, Mandarin) and are in different grades (10, 11, 12). Clues: Liam takes Spanish. Noor does not take French. The grade 11 student takes Mandarin. Zoe is older than Liam. Who takes what, in which grade?

11. Hoodie and cap. A hoodie and a cap cost $110 together. The hoodie costs $100 more than the cap. How much is the cap?

12. Doubling gaps. What comes next: 2, 3, 5, 9, 17, ?

13. Birthday riddle. Two days ago, Sam was 15. Next year, Sam will turn 18. What is today's date?

14. The race. In a race, you pass the person in second place. What place are you in now?

15. Two jugs. You have a 3-liter jug and a 5-liter jug and unlimited water. How do you measure exactly 4 liters?

16. Heavy coin. Of 9 coins, one is slightly heavier. What is the fewest balance-scale weighings that guarantees you find it?

17. Wrong labels. Three boxes are labeled "Apples," "Oranges" and "Mixed," and every label is wrong. You may take one fruit from one box. Which box lets you fix all the labels?

Hard logic puzzles for teens with answers (18-25)

18. Seating chart. Ari, Bea, Cam and Dev sit in seats 1 to 4 in a row. Dev is in seat 1. Ari is not at either end. Bea sits directly to the right of Cam (one seat number higher). Who sits where?

19. At least one. A says, "At least one of us is a liar." What are A and B? (Same island rules as puzzle 9.)

20. Three switches. Three switches outside a closed room control one bulb inside. You may enter the room only once. How do you find the right switch?

21. Growing steps. What comes next: 2, 6, 12, 20, 30, ?

22. Age puzzle. Kai is twice as old as Mo was when Kai was as old as Mo is now. Kai is 24. How old is Mo?

23. Night bridge. Four friends cross a bridge at night with one flashlight, at most two at a time. They take 1, 2, 5 and 10 minutes; a pair walks at the slower speed. Fastest total time?

24. The snail. A snail climbs 3 meters up a 10-meter wall each day and slides down 2 meters each night. On which day does it reach the top?

25. Clock angle. What is the angle between the hour and minute hands at 3:15?

Answers 9-17

9. A is a truth-teller, B is a liar. If B told the truth, A would be a truth-teller calling B a liar. Contradiction. So B lies, and A's statement is true.
10. Liam: Spanish, grade 10. Zoe: French, grade 12. Noor: Mandarin, grade 11. Liam has Spanish; Noor cannot take French, so Mandarin; Zoe gets French. Mandarin is grade 11, so Noor is 11. Zoe is older than Liam, so Zoe is 12 and Liam is 10.
11. $5. Instinct says $10, but then the hoodie is $110 and the total is $120. Cap = x, hoodie = x + 100, so 2x + 100 = 110 and x = 5.
12. 33. Gaps are 1, 2, 4, 8, so the next gap is 16.
13. January 1. Sam's birthday is December 31: 15 on December 30, 16 the next day, 17 this December, 18 next year.
14. Second. You took their place; you did not pass first.
15. Fill the 5, pour into the 3 (2 left in the 5). Empty the 3, pour the 2 in. Fill the 5 again and top up the 3 (it takes 1). 4 liters stay in the 5.
16. 2. Split into three groups of 3. Weigh two groups; the heavier one has it, or if balanced, the third group does. Then weigh 1 vs 1 from that group.
17. "Mixed." It must hold one fruit only. Pull an apple and it is the apple box; "Oranges" cannot be oranges, so it is mixed; the last is oranges.
